The palette flows through layered shades of blue, turquoise, white, black, and touches of gold. I began by building a rich texture within the landscape, allowing the surface to carry depth, movement, and light.
This piece was created with a dual intention. Visually, it is designed as a contemporary artwork that integrates effortlessly into modern interiors. On a deeper level, it holds the quiet, powerful energy of the sea at dusk—that fleeting moment when the last light lingers with surprising intensity, while the darkness of night gently begins to take over.

As with all abstract art, this work can be interpreted in many different ways. The following reflects my personal, intuitive inspiration behind its creation.
The painting embodies a subtle yet powerful journey of transformation: releasing deeply rooted patterns associated with pain and allowing them to soften, shift and evolve into something lighter.
Layers of earthy brown and beige create a sense of grounding and stability, offering a feeling of warmth and safety as emotions come to the surface. Across the composition, a soft, mist-like veil of white introduces a sense of light, symbolising clarity, release and the possibility of moving forward.
Ultimately, the work is an invitation to embrace change with grace and rediscover a sense of inner balance.

€ 550,00This painting has been selected for the cover of Schemerland – Over ongeneeslijke liefde, a deeply moving book by psychotherapist Katlijn Willems, soon to be published by Witsand Uitgevers.
“Waves at Twilight” is an original abstract painting that continues my exploration of texture, sea-inspired colour palettes, and refined metallic accents.
The composition balances two contrasting surfaces: one richly textured and sculptural, the other smoother and more fluid. This interplay creates depth and movement, echoing the changing surface of the sea.
Soft tones reminiscent of turquoise waters bring a sense of calm and spaciousness, while subtle metallic touches catch the light and add sophistication.
The painting is ready to hang.
A certificate of authenticity is attached to the back.
The artwork has been varnished and protected against UV rays to preserve the colours and surface over time. The deep edges (4 cm) are carefully painted in white, allowing the piece to be displayed beautifully with or without an additional frame.

This artwork was born intuitively. After completing the watery, dreamlike background, I felt the canvas calling for life—but I didn’t know which creature until fate intervened. News arrived of a rare whale sighting in Zoutelande, Zeeland—a moment of wonder that inspired this piece.
Whales, particularly humpback whales, are only occasionally seen off the Zeeland coast, making this encounter extraordinary. The painting reflects that sense of rarity and reverence.

Each wave is hand-sculpted using specialty fabric, modeling pastes, and layers of gesso, then carefully polished for a smooth yet dimensional finish. The surface is painted with multiple layers of holographic chameleon acrylics, shifting between deep navy blue and iridescent purple, creating an enchanting play of light.
At its heart lies a natural oyster shell, hand-painted and adorned with a pearl, embedded into the artwork and secured under a layer of crystal-clear resin. This process not only enhances depth and brilliance but also ensures durability and protection.
