Original contemporary artworks that transform interiors through light, texture and atmosphere.
Hello, I’m Monika Andriesse-Targiel, a professional artist based in Oostkapelle, Zeeland.
Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poland and Italy, with a master’s degree in Interior Design and Scenography, my work explores the space between realism and abstraction, intuition and structure, softness and texture. Inspired by nature, coastal light, and atmospheric depth, I create paintings that bring calm, presence, and subtle refinement into contemporary interiors.
Working from both artistic intuition and a background in interior design and multidisciplinary fine arts, I see painting not only as a visual experience, but also as a way to shape the feeling of a space. Each work is created slowly and thoughtfully, with close attention to atmosphere, materiality, and emotional resonance.
My artistic practice moves freely across themes and techniques, guided by curiosity, refinement, and a desire to create work that feels both timeless and distinctive.
Whether placed in a private home, hotel, or curated interior, my paintings are intended to invite calm, resonance, and a sense of quiet beauty into everyday life.
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”
— Pablo Picasso

Art, Atmosphere & Well-Being
Art shapes more than a space.
It shapes atmosphere, emotion, and the way we experience daily life.
Over the years, both scientific research and personal experience have shown that living with meaningful artwork can support a sense of calm, reflection, and emotional well-being. A painting has the ability to soften a room, invite stillness, and quietly influence how a space feels to those who inhabit it.
Studies suggest that visual art may help reduce stress, support emotional balance, and create environments that feel more restorative and welcoming. In hospitals, hospitality spaces, and private interiors alike, carefully chosen artworks are increasingly recognized for their positive psychological impact.
For me, painting exists somewhere between realism and abstraction, intuition and structure, softness and texture. Inspired by nature, coastal light, and emotional atmosphere, each work is created slowly and thoughtfully — not only to be seen, but to be lived with.
Original paintings carry a physical presence that reproductions cannot fully replace: layered textures, subtle movement, traces of the artist’s hand, and the quiet depth that emerges through time and process. These qualities allow a work to evolve within an interior and form a personal connection with the viewer.
Whether placed in a private home, hotel, or contemplative space, art can become a gentle anchor in everyday life — bringing depth, harmony, and a sense of presence to the environment around us.
The paintings we choose often reflect something deeply personal: a memory, a feeling, a longing for calm, light, or beauty. In this way, art becomes part of the emotional character of a space and the people who live within it.
My hope is to create works that offer not only visual refinement, but also a quiet sense of connection, atmosphere, and timelessness.
