“Whale Song”

“Whale Song” is an evocative union of fluid abstraction and natural realism, bringing together the boundless flow of water and the majestic presence of a whale. Created with layers of inks and acrylic paint, the composition balances undefined, flowing forms with the strength and grace of this ocean giant.

This artwork was born intuitively. After completing the watery, dreamlike background, I felt the canvas calling for life—but I didn’t know which creature until fate intervened. News arrived of a rare whale sighting in Zoutelande, Zeeland—a moment of wonder that inspired this piece.

Whales, particularly humpback whales, are only occasionally seen off the Zeeland coast, making this encounter extraordinary. The painting reflects that sense of rarity and reverence.

Symbolism:
The whale embodies wisdom, inner truth, and spiritual guidance. It is a powerful symbol of depth, emotional strength, harmony, and connection to life’s natural flow. Across cultures, whales represent longevity, the mysteries of the deep, and the eternal cycle of transformation.
