This piece continues my ongoing series inspired by the strength and beauty found in nature.
Created slowly and intuitively, the painting reveals dozens of layered textures and subtle transitions. The base surface was sculpted using special structural pastes, producing a natural crackled effect reminiscent of aged ceramics or sun-touched earth.
Grounding earthy tones (brown, beige, bordo and black) merge with delicate whites and soft muted violet light, while fine crackles — like healed scars — are highlighted with gold. These golden traces symbolize transformation: the moment when wounds become strength and experience becomes wisdom.
This artwork is more than decorative.
It carries presence, depth, and a sense of power.
The piece emerged from an intense and meditative creative process, reflecting a journey of healing — where the grounding energy of earth meets the uplifting touch of light.

Born of Earth and Light is a large-scale original painting that explores the meeting point between material presence and subtle luminosity. The surface is built up through an intricate structural foundation using four different texture pastes, creating a richly varied, tactile landscape.
Multiple layers of acrylic paint are applied to achieve depth and quiet complexity, allowing light and shadow to interact across the surface. The composition is completed with soft metallic copper tones, delicately integrated to add warmth and a restrained, luminous finish without overpowering the natural rhythm of the work.
The painting is signed on the reverse and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. It is currently on display at the Hilton Hotel in Rotterdam.
I have consciously chosen to no longer place my signature on the front of my paintings. Once a work enters a new home, it becomes part of the collector’s personal space, their story, and their interpretation. By keeping the signature discreetly on the back, the artwork is free to speak on its own—allowing for an intimate and uninterrupted connection between the piece and its viewer.

This artwork was born intuitively. After completing the watery, dreamlike background, I felt the canvas calling for life—but I didn’t know which creature until fate intervened. News arrived of a rare whale sighting in Zoutelande, Zeeland—a moment of wonder that inspired this piece.
Whales, particularly humpback whales, are only occasionally seen off the Zeeland coast, making this encounter extraordinary. The painting reflects that sense of rarity and reverence.
Symbolism:
